J Abling & Amanda Archuleta

J. Abling started dancing tango in 2001 in Seattle. A year later, he began learning to dance and teach under Jaimes Friedgen. In 2003, he moved to Portland to teach. For the past year, he has been traveling and teaching at different cities in the United States. He is currently based out of San Diego. The focus of his teaching is on the relationship between movement and the music, with an emphasis on technique. His teaching is influenced by his study in music, his training in sports, and experience in performance arts and teaching other social dances. Some of his influential teachers include Jaimes Friedgen (SEATTLE), Luciana Valle (BUENOS AIRES), Cecilia Gonzales (BUENOS AIRES), Cristina & Homer Ladas (SAN FRANCISCO), Rosa Corisco & Felipe Martinez (SF / SPAIN), Damian Lobato (BUENOS AIRES) and Tete Rusconi (BUENOS AIRES) to name a few. J. has taught in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, New York, Ashland, San Diego, Los Angeles, Maui and Reno. He has performed with Carrie Whipple, Silvina Vals, Jennifer Olson, Tara Fortier, Mitra Martin, Luiza Paes and Brigitta Winkler. He has also dj’d at festivals and regular milongas in Portland, Seattle, Houston, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Ashland, OR.

Class Descriptions - Saturday, March 20 at DanceSport CA
Tango: (all Levels) : Dance with style and musicality: different possibilities when walking for parallel and cross systems; double time steps in the walk. Changes of directions. Good resources for good navigation. Easy sequencies for the social dance. Close and open embrace.
Tango: (Intermediate - Adv): Technique of the “barrida”; barridas inside the turn and from different positions. Coordination and musicality. Line of dance. Flexibility of the embrace.
Class Descriptions - Saturday, March 21 at HAMA Dance Center
Technique and embellishment for women (all levels except absolute beginners) Specific warm up excercises; special training on transfer of weight, balance, axes, extra rotation and pivots, decorations and turns).
Note: bring flat shoes or a pair of socks, tango shoes and do not wear long skirts for this class!
Tango: (Intermediate): Musicality and fluidity in the dance. Pauses and stops.Technique of the "Sacada". Special moves and positions for sacadas. Turns with “entradas” and stops. Unesxpected changes of direction. Combinations and Sequencies.
Vals (intermediate): Rhythm and musicality for vals. Figuras from cross system. Turns with syncopation for vals; double time in the turn. Turns with sacadas and voleos. Specific sequencies and combinations.
Walk-in
